Bootlegger's - South Oakland

So Bootlegger's isn't really a restaurant, but I wanted to review it anyways. I think they at least sell chips and possibly pretzels. Bootlegger's is one of the "nicer" bars in South Oakland, which doesn't say much, but it is decent enough that I will at least admit to having been there. It is the only bar in Oakland open on New Year's Eve past 9pm, so that is where all the Oaklandites end up by default on that magical night of the year. I will also admit that I have had fun there on New Year's Eve... they give you party toys and streamers and one time they gave us little bottles of champagne. They don't have an awesome selection of beer or anything, but they do have a few decent things that you wouldn't find in most other crappy Oakland bars (*cough cough* Uncle Jimmy's), such as Hoegaarden and New Castle Brown Ale. I also like that they have booths here. If you get there early enough you can secure a booth for your "party" for the whole night. One of the negatives is that you can see the dudes peeing in the men's bathroom from a few of the seats at the bar. I wouldn't recommend those seats. In conclusion, Bootlegger's is an alright place to go with a group of people if you want to have a good time but you aren't looking for superior food or beer. It's also a great place to run into ex-computer lab supervisors!

Oh yeah, once I put $5 in the jukebox because I didn't have any change or smaller bills. I picked like 30 songs to play but we had to leave before any of them ever came on!!! I was ripped off.

I really don't like the "scene" at Bootleggers, it seemed generally composed of cheesy popped collar frat boys and girls with a thespians penchant for stage makeup ;) but thats just me. Keep up the work on the site, a good dialogue about local restaurants is great for lovers of food... and really who doesnt love to eating?
