Evergreen Chinese Restaurant is a chinese buffet in Monroeville, right next to Hooters. It is big inside and there is no menu, just a buffet. There are real chinese people there that talk very loudly in their language and it is annoying. If you go after 7pm, the food is old and cold and they will not replace it unless it gets busy. The food is typical cheap bad Chinese food. They have tons of chicken, stir-fry, rice, lo-mein, shrimp, and french-fries for some reason. They have a dessert bar which has softserve icecream that comes out of machine and canned fruit floating in canned fruit juice. The drink isn't even included in the price of the buffet, and no matter what you get, it tastes like slightly flavored water - especially the lemonade ... and the pop is always flat. The coffee is ok though. I go there very infrequently, but Todd likes it and I feel really bad for hating his favorite place .... but I can't help it. It isn't that the food tastes horrid when I eat it, but I feel like I am going to puke out grease for about two days after eating there. I would imagine that no matter what you eat there, a dinner sized serving of food is probably over 2000 calories. I can't eat an entire meal of fried food ... must have some salad or baked goods to wash it down.

Julie once asked me what the worst restraunt I had ever been to was. The Evergreen Chinese Buffet was the first place that came to mind.

Evergreen is bad, but not quite as bad the one on the other side of Rt. 22 to the East (is it King Chinese?)...near the Firestone tire store...that is the worst chinese food I've ever had. For some reason, my father loved both of these places.

This review highlights all that is so
obnoxious, provincial, and small-minded
about Pittsburgh - I go many places here
where there are a lot of white people
speaking loudly in Pittsburghese and that
is WAY more annoying than anyone speaking
Chinese. I am looking forward to moving
back to NYC, where people are often
provincial but tend to do it without
being ignorant and racist.

Evergreen has good and bad days, but it's a
great deal for the money. They have 2 - 3
soups, egg roll to start with, then several en
entrees. They are inconsistent as far as
freshness, but I always get my monies worth
and find enough that I like there. I agree
it's not high grade chinese food, but it's
still a fun place. They have Sushi also (I
only eat a little bit of this). The buffet
selection is really diversified and it's
overall pretty decent FOR the PRICE. Lunch
is around $6.00 dinner around $9.00 and you
can really stuff yourself. It's really nice
enough.

The Evergreen Chinese Buffet is not the best chinese buffet in Pittsburgh. However it is pretty good. The worst chinese buffet in pittsburgh is the one across the street from the North Versailles Wal-Mart. They use plain yellow rice for there fried rice, and everything is from the day before. If you eat there, the Evergreen looks Amazing! They have shirmp, salmon, many varieties of chicken, and there is alot of tofu in the hot and sour soup. I would give the Evergreen 3 out of 4 stars, when you compare it to other chinese buffets in Pittsburgh.
FOR THE PRICE IT IS GREAT!

Whereas I agree with Anthony about yinzers in western PA being ignorant and racisit (I don't think there is anything worse than a yinzer who is proud of their idiocy), Evergreen is god awful. If you want a good buffett, there is one in Green Tree near the blockbuster. For decent Chinese food in and around the monroeville area, there is a Chinese place on Yost Blvd in Forest Hills in the Giant Eagle Plaza. Other than that, you need to go to NJ (or NYC) where all food is better than western PA.

Evergreen is about as bad as it gets. There's a squishy sound as you walk, that's the soup, food and other crud that's in the rug.

Awful is the only word that comes to mind. I was looking for a place I went to 3 years back (with a little fountain/bridge when you come in.) This was not it and the food was cold and tasteless. I went at 4:30pm, so I expected good/late lunch service, but no such luck. I would never suggest this place to anyone!!
