Bruegger's Bagels - There is Hummus Among Us

I've been to the Bruegger's in Oakland several times, but apparently it was recently remodeled. I checked it out last night. The remodel wasn't that exciting, but they seem to be going for more of a "cozy coffee shop" feel. I checked out the website beforehand, so I knew exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, when I got there at 5pm, they had no whole wheat bagels, so I settled for plain. I guess they probably run out of a lot of things towards the end of the day. I also was looking forward to the possibility of soup - they listed at least 3 soups on their website that are vegetarian, but of course they didn't have a single one of them available at the Oakland location. Alright then, 0 for 2 so far. I did score a deal (I think, anyways) because I got a hummus bagel with three toppings (sprouts, tomatoes, and onions) and they didn't charge me any extra for the toppings. I don't know if that is standard practice or if the checkout girl rung me up incorrectly, but regardless, I was happy.

Bruegger's has the kind of toppings that I wish Subway had. I'm not a huge fan of bagels, but I haven't been a huge fan of Subway lately, either. My only question is - why do neither restaurants have mushrooms??

In conclusion, Bruegger's is "ok." They have a giant pile of delectable sweets to choose from, but since my bagel alone with no toppings weighed in at close to 400 calories, I decided to pass on those.
