Taste of India

I am a connoisseur of Pittsburgh Indian restaurants. I have been to a lot of them and I have tasted where no man has tasted before. No Indian restaurant in Pittsburgh comes close to this place. It has won numerous awards and is on the top of the list as my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. Try the navratan curry if you are in the mood for goodness. Or the alu palak is also one of my favorites. Don't forget samosas, garlic nan, and chai tea to finish off the meal. There's a special romantic atmosphere that makes this place great. You don't have to dress fancy, but can if you want. It is worth driving more than a half hour to get to. I highly recommend this place!!

I second your recommendation heartily! This restaurant is on the opposite side of town from our home, but my husband and I visit often. And if you think an hour-and-a-half drive is a sign of love, you should know that my brother-in-law and his wife drive all the way from southwestern Colorado. (Well, they visit us, too. But their first meal upon arriving in Pittburgh is always Taste of India!)

We just tried it upon your recommendations, and thought it was great. We're new to the city, and it's nice to have found an Indian food restaurant. I'm sure we'll go back often. Cheers!

Daniel and Abby, I'm glad you liked it. Corinne and I have a favorite waiter there who always treats us well- the owner is also very nice. Check out our other reviews for other Indian food restaurants

Gosh, I hope we went on just a bad night. It was pleasant enough but not remarkable. Seriously disappointed in the spice level. I ordered Paneer Makhni (spicy level 8) and my husband ordered Murg Vindaloo (spicy level 10) and we both thought it was maybe a 2. Moreover, my makhni tasted strongly of sweet tomato paste/canned sauce -- it seriously reminded me of Spaghetti-Os.

My kids had the paneer pakoras and they were terrific, although the waitress was not very friendly to us in general and specifically to my kids (not filling the kids' water glasses, etc). I would maybe order take out from here but we did not feel particularly welcome here as a family with kids (who were really quite good, I swear!).
