El Campesino - McKnight Road

I sometimes forget that it's impossible to get a table at any restaurant on a Saturday night. We waited over half an hour to be seated. While we waited, we noticed the lovely pressed metal art on the walls. It was actually pretty impressive. After the wait, we were seated at a table meant for four. We thought that our table would be separated so that another couple could be seated since many were waiting, but they didn't.

They brought us complimentary chips and salsa but didn't take our drink orders for another 10 minutes. The salsa was not overpoweringly hot, but I was uncomfortable without a drink. Our waiter was polite and helpful. I asked if the beans had lard in them and he went to check before answering. I was pleased that they did not.

The menu claimed that the food was fresh and authentic. I saw nothing that would make me question this claim. It was not Tex-Mex anyway. The food was reasonably priced and tasty. Our bill with the chips and salsa, two sodas, and two entrees came to $20.22. We were too full to try the fried ice cream but I would like to save room for it the next time. I think I'd like to try a margarita next time too. Some of those served to other customers came in glasses that were literally the size of your head.

The service was slow but it is sort of refreshing because it makes you slow down a little bit. We arrived around 7:15 and were given our bill around 9. But again, it was a Saturday night.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience. We'll go back on a week night next time. If you decide to go, print out the coupon found on the website before going.
