Cafe Phipps is part of the new addition at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. Everything is new and modern and environmentally friendly. For one, the cups look like plastic but are made of Nebraska corn that can be composted and the knives, spoons, bowls, and other utensils are made of other compostable materials. The menu is incredibly interesting with vegan, vegetarian and meat choices. I chose the vegan gyro. I was pleased with it because it had a lot of "meat" and vegetables but I didn't care for the sauce they too generously added to it. It also came with tortilla chips and salsa as well as a pickle. There is always a vegetarian soup available and they have a Morningstar hot dog too and the prices are reasonable. They also had a lot of baked goods and, surprisingly, a beer and wine selection. I went just for the food and did not stay for the exhibit, but what a nice afternoon that would make.
