Eat and Two Veg - London

One of the first restaurants that Nate and I ate at on our honeymoon in London was called "Eat and Two Veg." It took me awhile to get the pun of the name, although it's not really all that humorous. I guess they are trying to say it is a good place both to EAT and to VEG. Why they didn't just call it "Eat and To Veg" is beyond me, though.

I was really excited about eating here because I had reviewed the menu extensively on their website before going. Eat and Two Veg is an all vegetarian and somewhat trendy establishment. The style of the restaurant can be best described as a modern and trendy version of a classic diner. A lot of their items are vegetarian takes on traditional English foods, like the "Lancashire Hot Pot." I didn't really go the traditional route, though, and I had an "EatV" burger and fries. The food was great, and yes, they use Heinz ketchup in England. I was pleasantly surprised to see a little taste of home. This is also where we first noticed that all of the Heinz ketchup states in bold print that it contains celery. I'm not sure what that is about - maybe celery is a common allergen and I wasn't aware? Interesting, nonetheless.

The prices at Eat and Two Veg were shocking to us at first (my burger alone was the equivalent of almost $14), but we soon learned that everything in general was more expensive in London. I think we ended up leaving our waitress an extremely generous tip, because we hadn't quite mastered the pound to dollar conversion yet. She thanked us very graciously as we left.

I would definitely eat here again if I ever go back. It was very empty when we ate there, but it seems like it would be a fun place to hang out with some friends on a Saturday evening.

Update: I did some Googling, and found out that celery is indeed a cause of allergies.
"Celery is one of the most common foods to cause oral allergy syndrome in adults in countries such as Switzerland, France and Germany."
