Melissa and I decided it would be a good idea to get ice cream for lunch today. Melissa was still feeling the effects from big eating at a festival last night, and I ate an entire box of scalloped potatoes for dinner last night. So we were both clearly in need for some sugary ice cream. We went into Squirrel Hill and stopped at Ben and Jerry's on Forbes first. It was basically all the kinds of ice cream you could buy at a store, nothing exciting. So we left there and went down the street to Cold Stone. This was the first time in there for both of us. We were delighted at all the different concoctions to choose from. I chose 'Cookie Doughn't You Want Some.' This came with french vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, cookie dough, fudge, and caramel. Melissa chose 'Apple Pie A La Cold Stone.' This one came with sweet cream ice cream, cinnamon, graham cracker pie crust, apple pie filling, and caramel. I think we both died a little bit while eating. They were so good! If you like frozen treats I highly recommend Cold Stone Creamery.
AND, the best part is the in-store entertainment. Let me explain. When you order a mixed treat such as ours it's not a premade deal. They scoop the ice cream and make it into a kind of snowball shape and then smoosh it into a bowl shape. Then they scoop out all the ingredients and use two metal scoopers to mix everything together. It's awesome. I've never seen anything like it. (Yes, I lead a very sheltered life.) I think that they should clear the way in front of the preparation area so everyone can more easily watch the excitement.
I would recommend getting the small container. The containers look very small, but that is deceiving. Once all the ice cream and ingredients are mixed together you end up with a giant vat of a treat. Melissa and I both ordered the middle sized containers, and neither of us could finish. So either go hungry or order small. But definitely go.
