FYI to the Vegans in the House

The pizza sauce at Fuel and Fuddle has parmesan cheese in it (one of the waitresses told me this)... so if you want a cheese-free experience, you'd have to go with the garlic/olive oil topping instead of sauce. Just a general announcement.

Fuel & Fuddle – No more Black Bean Burger

I stopped by Fuel & Fuddle this evening with some friends and discovered the Black Bean Burger is no longer on the menu. There is still an option of a hummus wrap, grilled psychedelic, and the veg head pasta for the non-meat inclined. I will miss the black bean burger. It was tasty with a light topping of salsa. I always cut it in half in order to facilitate the eating of this sandwich. I hope some day I may see it again.

Fuel and Fuddle - The New Menu

Nate, Jess, and I were at Fuel and Fuddle Saturday night to test out some of the new menu options. Like I said in my last entry regarding this, there didn't seem to be a ton of new veggie-friendly options. They have what they always had and then a black bean burger (instead of a veggie burger) and Veg Head Pasta (instead of Left Coast Pasta), but I am almost positive that they used to have a pasta called Veg Head Pasta.

Before we could order though, all the power went out because there was a big storm outside, so that was exciting. I was getting irritated... I had been looking forward to this freaking black bean burger all week and I was going to be mad if they made everyone leave. While the power was out, we noticed how smoky the air was. I guess it's hard to see that when the lights are on. It's nice to know that everytime I step foot in the joint I am slowly putting one foot closer to the grave.

The power did come back on after a few minutes and we made our orders. Nate didn't get the Veg Head Pasta (traitor!) but got the Classic Veg Head sandwich instead. Boy, they really were lacking on the creativity when it came to naming the meatless entrees I guess.

When my black bean burger arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect... I just kept imagining someone standing back there ladling a spoonful of black beans onto a bun and calling it a burger. But it ended up looking normal and tasted great too! It came with salsa on the side for a topping. Without even thinking about it, I dumped half the salsa on the section of sandwich I was eating. That was a mistake... it was way spicier than I thought it would be and didn't really go with my beer ("Hazed and Infused"... they didn't have the brewer name up on the board, but I'd like to find out what it is because this beer was good). I learned my lesson for the second half and ate it salsa-less. It tasted ok that way, but I think next time I will ask for barbecue sauce instead.

Fuel and Fuddle

Word has it that Fuel and Fuddle has a new menu, and it can be found online here. It looks to me like they haven't altered the vegetarian options much, with the exception of swapping the veggie burger for a black bean burger. As far as other selections go, it looks like they have strangely added a lot of crab to the menu. I am interested in checking out this black bean burger, perhaps I will partake this weekend. Has anyone else had a "new" item yet?

Fuel and Fuddle

We also ate here recently for a Julie birthday celebration. (Most people get one day, Julie got a month long fiesta. haha) Anyway I decided - and it might be obvioius to others - that this isn't a great place to take kids. We ate there with our mother and 6 year old brother, Andrew. Andrew doesn't like to sit still as it is and he hates seeing other people with food when he has none. (People at other tables that is, not saying that we all ordered food and tortured him.) Also they don't have child booster seats or high chairs. So the experience left my mom holding Andrew by the arm with a death grip, everyone else protecting their plates from him because he was stealing food, and wiping up messes left behind by all. Even though I still love their food don't bother going here with anyone under the age of 10.

Fuel & Fuddle - Muy Bueno!

I like Fuel & Fuddle a lot. If you work in Oakland, it is a great place to go for lunch and get a drink ..... not that I have!! They have all kinds of foods - homemade pizzas, salads, sandwiches, wings, french-fries, and a variety of other appetizers. My favorites are the chicken chili, turkey burger, veggie burger, waffle fries, and spring rolls. Sometimes it is pretty busy, and you have to wait a long time. Lunch is usually fast, but you might have to wait for a seat. Weekends are always busy - I went there last year on my birthday around 11pm and we waited over an hour for food. But hey, the waitresses are pretty - and most of them are pretty nice. They have a very large beer selection - you can have the average Yuengling, or you can get a specialty beer that might taste funky. I think it is reasonably priced there too, and probably one of the only decent places to sit down and eat in Oakland.

Fuel & Fuddle - that means food and drink

Good beer selection, some quality foods to snack on or make a meal of. I like Dive diner fries, but they need to be shared as a snack or just by themselves as a meal.

Fuel and Fuddle - Oakland

This is a fun and happening place to go for an evening with friends. I like their food overall especially their salads. If you want to have a private conversation this is not the place for you. But if you want to gawk at college kids and answer the question of "who can really wear these kinds of clothes?" then you should go.
