Seitan Suggestions

There is a thread on Eatitandloveit for the best places to get Tofu. I recently realized the disservice we are doing to the internets by not providing a similar list for Seitan. So with no further delay, where to get good Seitan dishes, in no particular order or preference.

1) Spak Bros - Seitan wings, Seitan Melt, and on pizza Seitan sausage. They also have seitan pepperoni but we prefer the seitan sausage. They have soy cheese pizza too, though that is not seitan related.
2) Double Wide Grill - Seitan Wings (Good beer selection as well)

More to come! I'll monitor the comments and add things as people mention them.

Spak Brothers – Vegan cheese Pizza in “da Burgh”

I had a great meal from the Spak Brothers last night, a pizza with (soy) cheese, green peppers, onions, and (seitan) sausage along with a serving of (seitan) wings. It was fantastic.

Spak Brothers also serves a vegan seitan melt to round out their entire vegan selection. They serve a full range of non-vegan toppings for pizza and many non-vegan sandwiches, and of course non-vegan wings, for all the non-vegans out there.

The establishment seems geared toward take-out, there are areas around the wall to place food and beverage, but only six bar stools in the whole place to actually sit on. There is probably enough floor space to put a small table or two. Perhaps that will come in the future.

They have a pinball machine, with a dollar bill reader. That was how I spent some of my time while waiting for my food. They also have a little sit down multi-arcade game table thing, much like the one we used as a table at Cyber-Dogs in Seattle(see the second and third picture).

I absolutely loved my food there and I am excited to return for another meal. However, there were a few things I thought were lacking as vegan, and actually in non-vegan, options that I think they could easily serve with their current setup.
   1. Veggie Dogs – They could DEEP FRY them. Oh man, my brain … and arteries … hurt just thinking of that. They could also have meaty dogs for those who desire them.
   2. Vegan cheese sauce – For fries or for on veggie dogs as well. I kind of assume they have fries, but don’t recall seeing it on the menu
   3. Beer – I’m sure it’s hard/expensive to get a liquor license, but this would really round out their offering as their food goes great with beer.

They have only recently opened, in the Trib the were listed as a recently opening restaurant on August 14th 2008. As such they still have a few opening jitters. Our food took longer then expected to prepare, apparently there was a mishap with the fryer. No big deal though, and they kindly gave me a free beverage for waiting so long.

Also their pricing is quite affordable.
